The Perth Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild will be marking the Centenary of the Guild in two ways. We are holding a birthday tea party on Saturday April 29th, 2006 at the Oakbank Community Centre, Viewlands Road West, Perth from 2-4pm.
We are also in the process of completing a panel for the project Embroidery of the Century. Our selected year is 1920, and members have been hard at work producing images to mark key events from 1920. The aftermath of the First World War is keenly felt, with the erection of the Cenotaph and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Other events include a radio broadcast by Dame Nellie Melba and the submission of plans for the first hydroelectric schemes (particularly significant to Perth).
