Lincolnshire Branch: Newsletter February 2010

Newsletter February 2010

Chat from the Chair
What a pity we had to cancel the January meeting! After much thought and discussion we decided it would be for the best. I was particularly looking forward to what sounded like an interesting, 'hands-on' day; but we are hoping to re-arrange it, if a suitable date can be found.
However, the bad weather has given us plenty of time for stitching (!) since our festive gathering in December, when we had fun racking our brains in the quiz, learning new braiding skills and chatting over the excellent lunch.
It's good news that the Embroiderers' Guild has had its stay at Hampton Court extended by eleven months. While this takes the pressure off, I hope they are still working actively on finding a new home, rather than leaving it until the eleventh hour.
Following on neatly from my previous chat is this poem from Hobart Embroiderers' Guild, for which I thank them, and reprint here, in case some of you don't manage to see their newsletter

My Quilt
My neighbour is washing her windows
And scrubbing and mopping her floors
But my house is all topsy-turvy
With dust behind all the doors.

My neighbour, she keeps her house spotless
And she goes all day at a trot
But no-one will know in a fortnight
If she swept today or not.

The task I'm doing is enticing
(My poor neighbour is worn like a rag)
I am making a quilt out of pieces
I've saved in a pretty chintz bag.

Oh, and this quilt, I know my descendants
Will exhibit with pride in their hearts
'It is lovely, my grandmother made it
Such an example of patience and art'.

But will her grandchildren remember
All her struggles with dirt and decay?
They will not - they'll wish she had made them
A quilt like I'm making today.
Anon.

With best wishes, Dee.

TAP INTO TALENT!

Following the great success of the talk and mini-workshop on silk shading with Jane Drummond we would like to hold similar activities in the future. The general feeling was that skills were both shared and learnt, and members were able to make a small sample and chat to friends at the same time, making it a very enjoyable and sociable activity. We know that we have a wealth of talent in our branch and that you have lots of ideas, so share your skills and ideas with us! The committee is very happy to give you any support you may need to deliver your activity.
Please give your suggestions to Carolyn Merry or any member of the committee.
